Inside my sketchbook … issue 8 ...

Last night I did something startling.

No I didn't put the hard word on Hubby … I mean let's not go crazy here.

Instead at about 10:00pm … when I should have been heading off to bed … I got the sudden urge to paint … something … anything … so I did.

But I did it with a difference.

For a start I almost always use acrylics … cause I like the fine details I can get with them … but this time I grabbed my watercolours.

And then I threw caution to the wind … chucked my self imposed rule book out the window … and allowed myself to go a little crazy.

I let the creative urges take over and I painted without my usual attention to detail … without "trying" to be real … I just let it all go.

WOW … it felt pretty good to let the creative side of my soul take over … even if it was only for 30 minutes.

Next time I'm sure the OCD bit of my brain will be back … but here's the result of my fleeting moment of madness.

Can anyone tell who … or perhaps what ... it is????

  3. It's lovely! Nice and loose and yet comprehensible. Don't you just love crazy artistic impulses. I bet you're glad you listened to it!

    1. The only "rules" I know are the ones I place on myself … I swear I'm my own worst enemy most of the time ;0)

  6. Oh sweet master 14. Right? I'm impressed, Jo. The only thing I attempt late at night when I'm feeling creative is spoon directly into ice cream carton.

I must admit I've been known to enjoy your style of creativeness on a regular basis too.

  7. That has to be one of the masters!! Well done you. I do things odd things late at night, but I haven't painted. I say create when the creative juices are flowing.

  10. Awesome - you had an impulse and followed through. And look what happened. Wonderful painting. Loose, alive. It must have been grand to play with another medium. I was guessing that was your son, but whether yes or no, I love the colours in this portrait.

    1. Thanks Melanie … it really was fun … just shows you shouldn't limit yourself to what you "think" is your style.

  11. Jo that's great you decided to try a different way to do things. I find I am more creative late at night. You inspired me to try something a bit more experimental but as I can't paint or draw, I had a go at mixed media collage in an old sewing hoop I have had lying around for ages.

I love portraits and this is superb. xx

    1. Thank you … I wonder why it is that the "creatives" hit at night … perhaps because that's when we are most relaxed … I don't know. Can't wait to see the result of your collage … it sounds like a great idea.
